Data and generative systems
Katharina Brunner
Data journalist and maker of the open-source generativeart R package.
Practice and software
Brunner’s first-party site describes her as an investigative data journalist at Bayerischer Rundfunk, with work across research, data, writing, and knowledge-graph projects. Her Software portfolio separately lists open-source packages, including generativeart; the portfolio is not itself a GitHub repository. [1]
The linked cutterkom/generativeart repository is a public GPL-3.0 R package. It computes many point positions from a formula with random parameters and records filename, seed, and formula in a log for reproducibility. [2]
Why it matters here
Brunner is a useful reference for keeping generative variation accountable: an output can be visually open-ended while its formula, seed, and selection record remain inspectable. The same habit transfers to growth and data visualisation work: distinguish source data, transformation, random state, and final selection.
